Heyhey

Hey folks, how you all doin? its been a while!

I had a few problems logging into the forum here but zero helped fix me up so i thought i should come and say hi to you all!

I’m mostly playing company of heroes for my RTS fix these days(awesome game!), I did finally upgrade my computer and got on broadband, some of you will remember my horrible loading speeds in homeworld lol. Speaking of which, I have problems installing HW on my new rig, which is why i’m never there anymore.

Hope you are all doing well, SF nights were always a blast

My god, the dead are living… the Brummie is back!

Great to see you Vel. Hope you are well.

Would be great to get some games with you on HW, so what’s the problem when installing?

haha i’m good thanks mate, back from the dead indeed

the problem i have is… i get the sierra and relic screens appear as normal, but then i get a few seconds of a black screen followed by a windows error report message. it happens when its both patched and unpatched.

I take it uninstalling and reinstalling the game produces the same result.

Try running the game in compatibility mode (Win 98).

What does the error message say?

Sorry to interrupt this technical discussion, but just wanted to say HI VELCRO!!!

Ok, back to HW installation guide.

Malone out.

Velcrox. Wow dude. Good to see you around again man.

Hi Velcrox,

Glad you checked in. Several of us are in the final Sins of a Solar Empire beta. Hopefully the game will be good enough a large contingent of SF will play it. I’m enjoying the beta immensely.

I’ve probably had too much to drink atm… (like woah like maybe 8 shots + who lknows how mayn beers) but give me another shot and i’ll try to help you though installing HW on your rig.

hey airwave, malone, fiirks, drew, zero! its great to see some familiar faces still around

Ok well… so here’s what happens when i try a fresh install. Firstly i get this error message pop up as soon as I attempt the install. (which i dont remember seeing before)

“This application uses CTL3D32.DLL, which is not the correct version. This version of CTL3D32.DLL is designed only for Win32s or windows 95 systems”
I googled the filename, and it seems this error is fairly common. I checked my version of the file and it seems to be as it should be, but I’m super tired and reading is hard work right now lol

But it allows me to continue installing the game regardless. Then when i try to run the game, It gives me this error message
“homeworld.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

with win 98 compatibility mode checked, it thinks there is no valid CD in the drive

The first error message you can completely ignore as I always get that when installing and I’m able to run the game fine.

I doubt it’s your OS causing the game to crash cos I have Vista 64bit and even tho I do get the odd crash when loading it’s fine otherwise.

I’m wondering if a driver or another program running is conflicting with HW.

anyone know of a reliable guide to troubleshooting driver and program conflicts on the interweb?

i’m going to ask mr google

Scroll down to the classic games technical support section.

still no joy, lol oh well.
I’ll definately be interested in sins of a solar empire, but I’m not too keen on betatesting usually. When is the expected release date?

I believe it will released Feb 1.

DoD, Drew, Pit, and myself are in “Beta 4” which is pretty much the game, just needs a little refinement.
